A beautiful vintage French brocante find, this Gabriel Fourmaintraux Desvres pottery jug is a wonderfully characterful example of traditional French ceramic ware. Hand decorated with colourful stylised flowers and foliage in blue, green, ochre and warm terracotta tones, it has all the charm of classic French country pottery.

The underside bears the handwritten “G.F. Fait Main” mark, identifying the piece with Gabriel Fourmaintraux of Desvres in northern France. “Fait Main” translates as “handmade”.

With a generous 1-litre capacity, traditional pouring lip and substantial curved handle, this vintage ceramic pitcher would look beautiful on a farmhouse table, kitchen dresser or open shelving. It could be used as a serving jug or displayed decoratively, and would also make a charming vase for fresh or dried flowers.

Personally sourced by us at a traditional brocante in France, it is in particularly good vintage condition with no chips or cracks. We also have other pieces of Desvres pottery available in our collection.
