Vintage French Saint-Uze Ceramic Salt Box – Wall-Mounted Sel Crock with Lid

Bring authentic French country charm into your kitchen with this beautiful vintage French ceramic salt box, traditionally known as a boîte à sel. Featuring delicate pink roses, blue floral detailing, an attractive flower-basket design and the word SEL (French for salt), this charming piece is a wonderful example of traditional French kitchenware.

Made from cream-glazed ceramic with a removable wooden lid, this vintage salt keeper was designed to hang on the kitchen wall, keeping salt conveniently close to hand when preparing meals. Sourced from a French brocante, it offers both practical storage and decorative appeal, particularly in rustic farmhouse, French country and cottage-style kitchens.

The base carries a faded French pottery stamp which appears to read St Uze France, suggesting a possible connection with the traditional pottery-making region of Saint-Uze in France. Although the exact maker and age have not been confirmed, the stamp adds an interesting element to this original vintage piece.

Condition & authenticity

This is a genuine vintage item sourced from a French brocante and is in reasonably good vintage condition overall. There are a few small marks and spots consistent with age and previous use. The wooden lid has an aged finish and may benefit from revarnishing if preferred, although this could also be left as part of its authentic vintage character. The base carries a faded stamp which appears to read St Uze France. This is a tentative identification rather than a confirmed attribution.

Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description. As with all our vintage French finds, this is an original pre-loved piece rather than a modern reproduction.
