Vintage French Enamel Street Sign – Rue Felon (Traitor Street) Blue & White Road Plaque

A vintage French brocante find and a genuine piece of French municipal history, this original enamel street sign reads “RUE FELON” and comes from Antibes in the Alpes-Maritimes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur in southern France.

This particular sign reads Rue Felon. Félon/Felon; this can mean a criminal, but more specifically carries the connotation of a traitor, as in "Ganelon was a disloyal liegeman" translated to "Ganelon fut un vassal félon". A genuine piece of French history, it shows wear consistent with its life outdoors, adding to its authentic character. It roughly translates to Traitor Street or Criminal Street.

Made from enamelled metal in the classic deep blue and white colourway associated with traditional French street signage, this substantial 45cm plaque has spent many years exposed to the elements. It now carries plenty of genuine weathering, enamel loss, marks and age-related wear – all part of the character and history of an authentic reclaimed French road sign.
