Hinz & Kunst Handball Player Metal Sculpture – German Schraubenmännchen Sports Figure

This characterful Hinz & Kunst metal sculpture depicts a handball player in action, ball raised ready to shoot towards the goal.

This is a German Hinz & Kunst Schraubenmännchen sculpture by metal artist Günter Scholz. The distinctive figures are handmade from steel and copper components which are cut, bent and welded together, creating humorous miniature scenes from sport, work and everyday life. The spectacles worn by the figures are a recognisable feature of Scholz's designs.

This design represents the sport of handball, with the athlete captured mid-action alongside a detailed perforated metal goal. Hinz & Kunst currently identifies its Handball design as model 046.

Although German in origin, this particular sculpture was discovered at a French brocante — an interesting crossover piece of European collectable design with plenty of character.
