Genuine French Door Number 11, Traditional French Enamel House Numbers

This is an original French enamel front door number 11 which would add a touch of French country chic to any front door or gatepost. This is a genuine French vitreous enamel on steel number, which has usually spent years on a front door, it will have scratches, marks and signs of a previous life; this is part of its appeal. This particular number is in a good used condition so may not have been mounted for very long.  The 'quater' at the end of French numbers is a little like our 11A, 11B or on this case 11C, it indicates another house with the number 11 on the street or where one dwelling or plot of land has been divided into more than one property. Eg. 11 would be the first property. 11bis the second (equivalent to 11A), 11ter is the third (equivalent to 11B) and  for this one 11quater is equivalent to 11C as it is the fourth house on the street with the number 11. We often find the bis and ter but these Quater are far less common. This is not a copy, this is an original metal genuine French number bought at a traditional brocante market in France. These numbers are not generally for retail sale in France, they are given out by the mayor or local council.
