A wonderfully characterful French brocante find, this large ceramic chicken serving bowl brings instant rustic charm to a farmhouse, cottage or French country kitchen. With its generous 2-litre capacity, substantial ceramic construction and distinctive sculpted chicken head, it makes an unusual serving piece as well as a fabulous decorative kitchen feature.

Sourced at a market in northern France, the dish has a deliberately rustic, handmade appearance with subtle surface marks and small casting irregularities that complement its French country character.

At 28cm / 11" across its widest point, this is a substantial statement piece rather than a small decorative chicken dish. Use it as a generous salad or serving bowl, fill it with fruit on a farmhouse table, or display it on open shelving or a kitchen dresser.

Its neutral ceramic finish and quirky hen design work particularly well with French country, farmhouse, cottage core and shabby chic interiors, while its generous proportions make it an eye-catching table centrepiece.

Condition & Authenticity

In good pre-owned condition with no cracks. There are light marks, signs of previous use and small casting irregularities which form part of its rustic character. This piece is believed to be approximately 15–20 years old, so I would describe it as vintage-style rather than a true vintage or antique piece. It was sourced personally at a traditional brocante market in northern France.
