This is a complete set of 6 French St Amand earthenware/ceramic fondue plates. These fondue plates have the makers stamp on the base of each one and would be ideal as buffet plates or portion control plates as well as fondue plates. Upgrade your buffet or BBQ from paper plates to this charming set of vintage pieces. These are French Faience which were bought at a traditional French brocante market and are in a good used condition with no cracks, just a little nibble/flaw in the making process on one plate, as shown. There are 6 fondue plates in the set. Faience is the general English language term for fine tin-glazed pottery. The invention of a white pottery glaze suitable for painted decoration, by the addition of an oxide of tin to the slip of a lead glaze, was a major advance in the history of pottery. These plates have the wording Faience de St Amand (Faience from St Amand -an area in France), Garanti Inalterable (guaranteed genuine) and Pient Main (hand painted). they are a beige colour with a darker brown trim and a speckled pattern.
