Rustic Cornichons Pot, Gres Paysans of Japan, Vintage Stoneware Gherkin Jar (B14)

This is a traditional glazed stoneware cornichons pot with a cork lid in a rustic vintage style with a wooden handle. This is marked on the base as Gres Paysan, which is glazed pottery stoneware Made in Japan dating from around the 1970s. The lidded pottery jar is in shades of mottled grey and brown with the French word Cornichons inscribed on the front. Cornichons are dilled gherkins, not sweet gherkins. If a recipe calls for cornichons, it is referring to the dilled variety of gherkins popular in French cooking. This vintage stoneware ceramic jar has a lovely rustic feel and would look great in any country style, farmhouse or vintage inspired kitchen. It is in a good used condition with just a tiny nibble at the base as shown, however, no cracks. This was bought at a traditional French brocante market although made in Japan; this style is very popular in France and widely collected on the continent.
