British WWI Trench Art Brass Vase, Mounted 18 Pounder Shell Case and Plaque (A90)

This is an unusual WW1 British brass 18 Pounder shell, dated 1916, now halved and mounted on a wooden plaque; great for dried flowers or poppies as this is a genuine Somme battlefield piece synonymous with the poppy for remembrance. The plaque reads From the Battlefields of the Somme 1914 - 1918. Trench Art is a term given today to a wide variety of decorative items, sometimes also functional, produced during or soon after the First World War. Some pieces were made in the trenches and others by workshop troops behind the front lines. They had the materials, machinery, skill and occasional spare time. This historical piece of WW1 militaria is dated 1916 and would have originally been a full piece found on the battlefields. It is signed on the back in 1980 by the Frenchman that mounted it and created this. It make a great gift for a militaria collector.  This was bought at a traditional French market in the Somme region of France. It is in a good solid condition. We buy all our stock in France from local markets and as such all the items we sell are used or vintage and will show signs of a previous life, in this case this is over 100 years old so will have small dents and marks. This is all part of its unique vintage/antique appeal. It is not always possible to show every minor scratch on a photo so if you are looking for new then this may not be for you. Any significant flaws are always highlighted in both photos and descriptions.
