Wooden Arts and Crafts, French Vintage Sea Scene, Hand Carved Bas Relief (B63)

This is a traditional French wooden carved bas relief picture of a seafaring harbour scene scene. This is in a good vintage condition with just the odd marks, as shown and to be expected from an item which will have spent years in a French home. It is in a good used condition with only light signs of its previous life and its 60+ years as shown in the pictures which form part of the description. What is bas relief? Bas relief is a type of art in which shapes are cut from the surrounding material, usually wood or stone, so that they stand out slightly against a flat surface; the sculpted pieces remain attached to a solid background of the same material. It has a traditional arts and crafts folk feel. 
This charming picture is handmade and hand carved, making it a one-of-a-kind addition to any collection. The panel is from the 1960s and is a great example of French art of that era. It is perfect for collectors of vintage and retro items, as well as those who appreciate handmade art. This also would make a nice gift for a fisherman or keen sailor. 
This was bought at a traditional French brocante market, as is all our stock and will have signs of a previous life, as such, if you are looking for brand new, then this may not be for you.
