French Vintage Art Deco Style Cut Glass Cutlery or Knife Rests (C14)

This is a lovely set of 8 vintage French cut glass Art Deco style cutlery rests. These cutlery rests are a complete set of 8 in a good used condition; these would look lovely at any dinner party.
What is a cutlery rest?
A cutlery rest is a piece of kitchenware for resting a used piece of cutlery without touching the table to prevent cooking fluids from getting onto tables. The use of cutlery rests date from the early 18th Century and possibly the late 17th century. The gentry and the ruling classes sat down to a meal that could have up to 12 courses and apart from their hands, probably only had one knife and fork per person. To save soiling the table, or the tablecloth, the utensils required something to rest on that kept them off the table. As French meals often have multiple courses these are still frequently used across France in homes and occasionally restaurants. This set and was purchased at a French brocante market as is all my stock. They do not have a box.
