XL Vintage French Copper Fish Kettle Poacher- w. Insert & Tin Lining 4.7kg (C14)

This vintage French copper fish kettle is a unique addition to your country style or farmhouse kitchen. Measuring a large 62cm, it is perfect for cooking even the largest portions of fish. The fish steamer/poacher or kettle, is known as La Poissonnière in France and has hand wiped traditional tin lining and its original inner; these are often missing. It is an original piece from the 1970s, found at a French brocante market. The copper is a professional1.5mm thick and has a charming hammered effect; the handles and the decorative handle are solid brass. The tin lining is in tact, although has tarnished with age and light use. This is usual for tin. All tin lined pans begin life as shiny tin - after just one use they will start to darken, sometimes unevenly and in patches. 
But why do tin lined pans tarnish and darken?
Firstly, this is normal, it's just tarnish, don't try to remove it, tins own oxides and salts are all food safe and don't affect use. Tin, like copper, is a "living" metal, its appearance will constantly change with use. Eventually it'll go dark grey, don't be sad about it, grey tin is a good sign that it's been used properly and conditioned itself to be tougher, smoother and even more anti-stick than newly wiped tin. 
All the items we sell are used or vintage and will show signs of a previous life. This is part of their unique French shabby chic appeal. As such, if you are looking for something 'new' then this is probably not for you.
