This is a WW1 British No. 85 brass fuse sourced from the Somme region in France. This brass fuse artefact has been fired so will show impact damage. This little piece of WW1 memorabilia would make an unusual paperweight as it weighs a hefty 0.8kg or would be a great gift for a militaria collector. Relics and artefacts from WW1 are still being found today, even over 100 years later, by farmers across the Battlefields of the Somme. This example has some damage to one side, possibly from when it was fired or when a farm machine cut into it as it was unearthed. It has the pinking caused from age; as brass corrodes, it can undergo dezincification, a process in which zinc is lost and copper is left behind. This causes the brass to turn a pink colour in places. See our online vintage brocante shop selling over 300 unique, vintage and up cycled French finds for your home and garden, including more militaria from The Somme region, all sourced from markets and militaria fairs across France. We have a number of fuses, both German and British pieces, see the militaria section of our shop. Militaria WW1 and WW2 – All Things French Store
