British WW1 Memorabilia SRD Rum Jar, WW1 Rum Jug, SRD Jar by Doulton of Lambeth (A71)

This is a WW1 British SRD rum jug purchased at a traditional French brocante market in the Somme region of France and is in a good condition with some marks and flaws as shown, and in keeping with its age and history. This has the makers stamp of Doulton of Lambeth on the base which is imprinted into the ceramic rather than just stamped on. This is a British WW1 SRD Rum Jar dating from 1914-1918 often seen in trench photographs from WW1 and used to send rum supplies to the soldiers at war across Europe. This flagon is the standard 1 gallon size. This has the usual manufacturing imperfections of a jar like this as well as the wear detailed above. On the neck of the jar are the letters SRD: These are for ‘ Supply Reserve Depot’ but were often said to represent ‘Seldom Reaches Destination’ or ‘Soon runs Dry’. This piece of British militaria history was bought from a traditional brocante market in the Somme region of France, famous for the many Battlefields in the area.
