Vintage Style Steel Candlestick Holder, French Cellar Rat Candle Holder (C49)

This is a French black steel candle holder known as a candle rat. These were used in French cellars and are so called as the holder resembles a rats tail. The centre handles wind the candle up and down as it burns out. These have been used in France for 100s of years, this is not an antique version, more vintage than antique. It is probably no more than 30 years old and was bought at a traditional French brocante market. This is a handy little item even today, for power cuts or just for a vintage ambiance to any home and is in a sued condition with some rust and wear as shown, and to be expected. Can be useful on a boat or for camping as the candle is safer than a standard candle holder as its kept upright within the tail.
