WW1 SRD Rum Jar, WW1 Relic, WW1 Militaria, The Great War, Price of Bristol (C77)

This is a genuine British WW1 SRD Jar Rum bought from a traditional French brocante in the north of France around the Battlefields of the Somme. SRD stands for Supply Reserve Depot, although as were filled with rum they were sometimes referred to as "Seldom reached destination". These jugs were sent out to the soldiers on the battlefields and are often still found today in farmers fields. Many different companies manufactured these during the war especially around the Stoke potteries area and they are now widely collected with some makers stamps more valuable than others depending on their rarity. This jug is in a used condition with a casting flaw to the neck, this is smooth to the the touch so is not a chip. It is in quite a reasonable condition for an item over 100 years old. It has a clear maker stamp of "Price of Bristol" These were not really made to be reused so were often fairly roughly manufactured; consequently they will have period manufacture mould defects consistent with techniques of production at the time (1914-1918)
