This is a genuine WW1 trench barbed wire spigot measuring 167cm-170cm making it a complete example, not the usual part pieces or cut offs usually found. This was bought at a militaria market in the Somme region of France, in the heart of the Somme Battlefields. During World War I, barbed wire was used for both defensive purposes and as a trapping mechanism. Soldiers would defend their trenches with barbed wire by installing the barbed wire a distance away on the ground from the tops of their trenches. This was supported by a series of these spigots also known as trench pins. Very few of these are found now still in this complete condition. All the items we sell are used or vintage and will show signs of a previous life. This is part of their unique French shabby chic appeal. See our website vintage shop selling over 300 unique, vintage and up cycled French finds for your home and garden including more militaria, all sourced from markets across France and in the case of militaria, usually sourced from The Somme region where we have a base.
