Featuring delicate pink roses, blue floral detailing, an attractive flower-basket design and the word SEL (French for salt), this charming piece is a wonderful example of traditional French kitchenware.

Made from cream-glazed ceramic with a removable wooden lid, this vintage salt keeper was designed to hang on the kitchen wall, keeping salt conveniently close to hand when preparing meals. Sourced from a French brocante, it offers both practical storage and decorative appeal, particularly in rustic farmhouse, French country and cottage-style kitchens.

The base carries a faded French pottery stamp which appears to read St Uze France, suggesting a possible connection with the traditional pottery-making region of Saint-Uze in France. Although the exact maker and age have not been confirmed, the stamp adds an interesting element to this original vintage piece.

Key Features

Authentic vintage French ceramic salt box, also known as a boîte à sel or French salt cellar

Cream-coloured glazed ceramic with pink roses and blue floral decoration

Attractive central flower-basket motif with black SEL lettering

SEL is the French word for salt

Removable wooden lid with naturally aged finish

Traditional wall-hanging design with mounting hole

Base stamped with markings appearing to read St Uze France

Individually sourced from a traditional French brocante

Original vintage kitchen storage with decorative farmhouse appeal

Ideal for French country, rustic, cottagecore and vintage kitchen interiors

One individual vintage salt box available

Dimensions

Height: 15 cm / approximately 5.9 inches at the highest point

Width: 16 cm / approximately 6.3 inches

Depth: 11.5 cm / approximately 4.5 inches

Weight: approximately 600 g

Material: glazed ceramic and wood

Country of origin: France

Perfect for

Adding authentic French farmhouse charm to a country kitchen

Traditional wall-mounted salt storage or decorative kitchen display

French country and rustic cottage kitchen interiors

Collectors of vintage French pottery and traditional kitchenalia

Displaying alongside antique copper pans, enamelware and vintage kitchen utensils

Creating a charming French-inspired kitchen in the UK, Japan or South Korea

A thoughtful gift for someone who loves French brocante finds and vintage homewares

Condition & authenticity

This is a genuine vintage item sourced from a French brocante and is in reasonably good vintage condition overall. There are a few small marks and spots consistent with age and previous use.
