French Handmade Stoneware Cheese Plates by Gien of France, 6 Cheese Plates (A38)

This is a lovely set of French 6 Les Fromages plates (cheese) handmade by Gien of France. These are made of stoneware, also called sandstone in France, which is unusual for Gien whose plates are usually porcelain. Each plate has a different selection of French cheeses and has a lipped style, handy for holding at dinner parties without the cheese slipping off. The Gien making process is completely manual. Up to twenty hands touch each piece - from moulding, firing and decorating. Various artists are chosen to produce the unique designs which are executed with strict attention to detail and quality control. These plates were bought at a traditional French brocante market, they are in a good used condition as shown with no cracks. This cheese plate set would look great on any dinner table.
